I installed my new gear today, I got the pinion bearing preload set perfect. backlash and gear pattern both set up perfect and it seemed like the preload on the pinion went down considerably when I put the cover on and filled it with fluid. It's my first one so I wasnt sure if this is normal? I have drivin it about 50 miles or so and it doesnt make any noise. Also I drove it for 15 miles and stoped to let it cool like the book said and I felt the diff and it was just luke warm, I let it set for 45 min and drove home about 25 mins. when I got there I felt it again and it was only warm. Is this a good thing? I was told the gears would get very hot.

if the bearing was dry when you set the preload it could have been binding up giving you a flase reading.
I did lube it but after It seemed lose I tried to tighten the nut and it wouldn't get any tighter the nut just wouldn't turn. It doesnt have any play in it as far as up and down or in and out.
