Just picked this up Saturday. Trying to figure out exactly which GM engine it is. All he knew was it was a 5.3L. Any idea if this is the same block used on the LS engines and what heads these are:
Thanks all. Forgive my ignorance, but I'm assuming that GM uses a larger block for the 6.0L and 6.2L? Or is it the same, just bored and stroked?
Just tring to decide if I should find a vehicle with a blown engine and turn it into a project car, use this in my car, or just sell it as a longblock.
that is a LM7 truck block, the motor looks super clean. This is not the same block they for the 6.0 and 6.2 LS motors but there isn't much difference aside from cubes.

yes, the 4.8/5.3 is a different block, as are the 6.0 and the 6.2 as well. 4.8/5.3 and the 6.0 are both iron, the 6.2 is aluminum. You can bore the 5.3 to 5.7 specs if you wanted to. The only difference between the 4.8 and the 5.3 is the crank stroke. The 5.3 is a small bore 5.7, and the 4.8 is a destroked 5.3
I really want to build a bored over 4.8 and rev it to the moon
