New Dyno #'s to follow up track times with custom cam. Too bad it can't be done w/a j/y 302 ;-)

1st off, this is a stone stock Explorer bottom end, with GT40P heads that have never even been lifted so...
Needless to say I'm happy with my new Scotty Brown Custom Cam! The car picked up about 2 1/2 tenths and 2mph JUST from the swap from the old AFM B2 (installed 6 retarded) in the 1/4 mile. Today I finally got it back on the dyno. I knew it picked up TQ throughout the curve (even down low despite it's duration/tight LSA) but I was hesitant to say it gained much up top in terms of PK. The #'s say it all. I'll get the run files on Monday so I can overlay them on the prior cam's graph, but for now I'll just say, with no other changes (other than tune obviously) but the cam, it picked up 19HP at the feet and 21rwtq at 300 less rpm than the B2 which was VERY apparent just driving it. Junkyard Explorer Long block 302 what???? (yea, some of our hourly buddies at Ford assembled this bitch for an explorer back in 96 or 97). To think what I could do with some "tricks" to the internals, or heads, think F/S) Damn, just don't release this to the "other" forums ;-) Anyhow, for your viewing pleasure, and for all the haters that just want to throw more dinero/parts at theirs.................damn, this MM thing is really giving me an attitude, nah.....

1st pull;

2nd pull. richend it up since the last cam liked it rich on the dyno, not this one, didn't really care;

3rd pull;
see next post apparently.

ECT was 10 degrees warmer, but it still made more HP and only gave up 2 or so LB/FT.

Damn I'm happy!!

But but but.....a 302 with iron heads will never make over 300hp to the rear tires naturally aspirated! .....lol

Nice job. You need some wheels other than the cobras tho :D some chrome pony wheels would be the hotness

Oh I know, the way I look at it is that even on a Mustang dyno I should still be right at that 300 watermark!

You mean something like these? http://www.motownmuscle.com/forums/showthread.php?158147-17x8-17x9-Pony-R-wheels-set.... :icon_wink

Good luck on your sale man, they do look sweet!

This is really making me want to take the stock motor out of my 85 and put the "good" motor from my notch project into it. My 85 is supposed to be my DD but at this rate that plan won't last long.

Very nice!! My brothers car is getting his clutch broke in, hopefully I see you make some passes in a couple weeks ;)!

Clutch broke in? Heehee, mine had a few street miles (like 7-8) then it was at Stanton launching at 6k!

I'm looking at heading out either Saturday for the Toys for Tots race or Sunday when I can get more passes in during the tnt.

Well, not exactly Monday, but as promised here's the graph. He didn't print me the one I was really waiting for that compared the old b2 cam to the new custom but he did give me the run files so I just ran it through winpep. That's why the comparison one doesn't have his logo on it, but you get the point. So in addition to the pk gains it also picked up 10hp and 10lbft AVERAGE from 2000-6500, that's even taking the points below 2800 where the new one was lacking. Like I said initially, I'm happy with the results of a "simple" cam swap! The top one is the comparison of the two cams, the bottom one is ALL 3 runs I made.
