1:38pm: I was just called by my friend's mother. He was hit by an SUV yesterday, on foot. Both legs are broken (femur), his spleen was removed last night due to rupture, liver was damaged, a lot of internal bleeding, may have a couple broken ribs. He still has to get rods placed in his legs when his vital are strong enough. Luckily his CAT scan came back and there are no brain injuries found.
He has been doing OCS training for the last two years, and now that's all ruined. He is in stable condition at the moment, but heavily sedated, will be through at least sunday night. He has a lot of pain and physical therapy ahead of him. so if you could please send a prayer for him and his family it would be greatly appreciated.

Update 11/1/08 1:38am: just got back
He is in stable condition, however he's in a drug induced acoma pretty much, will be through at least Sunday. There are times that they slow the drugs to check for reaction and whatnot, he was able to respond by nodding and was able to move enough to gesture a hug to his mom, which made our day to see him react like that and know that people were there. Tears have been shed without a doubt, and this is very hard on all of us.
His parents are now taking it very well, we were able to laugh and try and keep the mood positive with some joking and laughter.
And i have a new better detail of what happened...
While crossing the street, through a horrible mis-sight, the driver of a suburban did not see him, and my friend could not see the suburban. When he was hit it was stated that the driver was still at an estimated 55mph. Once hit he was thrown into the air, after rolling several times ended up resting in a fetal position. There is a good chance that Chris' OCS Marine training, that he had been doing vigourously, saved his life. Due to the muscle that he had built up, it most likely helped to keep him in the shape that he was in considering what had happened. The driver stopped immediatly and luckily the first person to stop was a nurse who called an ambulance and was able to check all his vitals. He was also with a small group of friends who were in the hospital with him until about 4am last night. The first thing he said after he got up was "get off me" which sounds exactly like Chris regardless of situation, which was good to hear that his mind hadn't changed at all haha
The injuries are as follows, now that i have a clear understanding:
Punctured diaphram that was operated and repaired last night
Spleen was ruptured and also removed last night
Collapsed lung, but was reinflated and not punctured. He is however currently on a respirator.
Kidney is bruised but should heal fine over time
Both femurs are broken. He currently has pins and a mechanism holding his legs, once his vitals are stable enough he will go into surgery to had rods placed in his legs. luckily he should be able to walk, or at least stand in a timely manner.
CAT scans are good and there is no brain or major head trauma aside from scrapes and stiches.
The doctor said that to be remotely close to his physical abilities before the accident it will take at least a year of work and physical therapy.
We are still unsure exactly as to what will happen with OCS, but it is known that he will now most likely have to resign and may not have the oppertunity to serve as he had been planning for years.
We all love him and are praying for his family and for him, but despite of how it looks, he is making positve improvements.
