need some help with a 5.4.

I bought a 99 expedition. I was told the motor was bad and need to be replace. he said he bought it as is and was told it had a rod knock. I charged the battery. tried to turn it over and seen a fuel rail was off. started thinking it might just have a spark plug blown out of something. putt the fuel rail it place. been turning over with no luck on even firing. even with starting fluid. it fired. only for a second once. just figured I would try and see what is wrong before I pulled a motor and put the one in from my 97 expedition. if you know anyone that is good at figuring this out and would come over and look. I am in Dearborn hts around I94. 313 5739814

Maybe one of the timing chain guides broke. I believe the 5.4's were notorious for that. U would have to take off the front cover and check to see if the timing chains jumped. Good luck
