So in a nutshell, about 2 months ago I was finally able to afford to get myself a nice 02 F150 like I had been wanting for a while now. The truck is damn near mint, even though it has 145k miles on it. Other than a handful of very small scratches in un-noticeable areas, the paint overall looks super good...until two days ago i noticed a shit load of random scratches confined to small 10 inch radius just behind the gas door.

I almost had a heart attack when i saw this because not even 5 days prior i had hand washed and hand polished the whole truck and it was immaculate. I stood there for 10 minutes trying to figure out what the hell could have happened. I thought maybe when my dad borrowed the truck for half a day to pick up somthing that he may have drove witht he gas cap off and it blew around and caused all the scratches....well the gas cap doesnt even reach to where the nearest scratches start. I called my dad and asked him and he said theres nothing to his knowledge that would have caused the scratches and I believe him.

So i spent half of my day furious and confused trying to figure out what happened and when it might have happened. When my fiancee made a good point that the two neighbor kids ( around 6-7 yrs old) from two houses down always ride there bikes, and there parents tell them they have to turn around in my driveway. Now, I have never noticed them personally come near my vehicles but my fiancee said the last week the little boy nearly fell into the side of her car when he was riding in the grass to turn around.

I still wasnt sure this might have been what caused all the scratches until tonight when i had my dog out in my front yard, i noticed that with my front porch light on that i could see very distinct bike tir paths that circle from the side walk, to about 5 feet up my front yard right next my driveway where they disappear, and this is the exact location of where my truck is generally parked and where the scratches are located. So now heres my tricky situation, these kids do this routine probably 30+ times a day, and the parents are rarely watching them. I want to go over and kindly explain myself to them and just request them to not have there kids ride circles in my yard up by my vehicles when they turn around. I dont expect them to take blame or pay for the damage, but I'm very worried it will create a problem because of race.

What should I do?

Do us all a favor and don't feed into the "race" card crap...I'm so tired of hearing that! It's 2010 and those kids are riding their bikes on YOUR grass, and accidently scratched YOUR vehicle. Any parent that plays a race card when asked nicely to keep their kids off YOUR driveway and away from YOUR truck is ignorant, and most likely a racist themself. I live by a few different ethnic families, and there is never been a problem if i asked the parents to change a habbit of their children because they are intruding on MY space. It's just common decency black white grey yellow or purple that you respect your neighbors, and their boundries. Unless of course you have a history of making nothing into something for them to believe you may be of a racist nature...but you don't sound like that kinds of person. Just let them know....hey your kids are getting awefully close to my vehicles while using my driveway to turn around. I fear there may be an accident and would like your kids to find somewhere else to turn around. If you don't care that they take responsibility for the damage already done, then don't mention it. It will add no value to the conversation and cause an overactive parent to become defensive, possibly creating the situation you wish to avoid. So if you don't care, then who cares, just address the issue at hand. Let them know that you would like them to have their kids stay off YOUR lawn and away from YOUR driveway. Usually respect given is respect earned.

X2....Wow, very well stated & good advice!

My neighbors kids always use my driveway to turn around. I just told them not to go near the cars and I was OK with it. I have never seen them near any of the cars and usually yell a warning if I am out and they get close to the Camaro. They always heed it and show respect for my property.

Agree with everyone else......You have ever right to ask that the kids not use your driveway to tur around......Just say you found damage on your vehicle, and you are nto blamimg the kids.....But to avoid further damage or accidents, you kindly would appreciate they use another drivway to turn around.....Then thank them for their time, and move on.

Are they parents that give a fuck about their kids? I know my neighbor lady would turn it into a big fight.

pellet gun, kidding My kids have been trained to not go near other peoples cars talk to the parents and explain things if that doesnt work pellet gun or a string across the grass should stop them

Tell the parents that your truck got damaged and you're not pointing fingers but you'd kindly like to ask them to stay off your property to avoid any other incidents.
If you do not approach them in a confrontational manner they should have no problem respecting their neighbors wishes.

just gunna have to man up and kindly talk to the parents and tell them you don't want the kids using your property. If the kids keep doing it you'll have to step it up somehow.

Or dig the lawn out about 5 feet deep with spikes at the bottom of the pit. Then place branches over the hole with grass and such to camoflauge it.
