Need info on Crown Vic Steering

The late model crown vics have steering racks instead of steering boxes. Anybody know if they are front or rear steer, i.e. steering arms on the knuckles are in front, or behind the wheel center?

The rack is front steer ahead of the cross memeber. The knuckles look similar to the old ones but I am unsure of that. everything looks similar except the rack and tie rods.

Wow.... nice rack... :iconmgr

I actually like the looks of a lot of those pieces. It's what GM <might> have done to the b-car if they kept it around...

I am looking for rack options, I hate the way the recirc ball steering feels on my Caprice, and I have been thinking of trying to fit a rack under there..

Thanks for the info. Heading to boneyard tomorrow, I'll see what I find...

Make sure that the inner tie rod center to center distance is the same. If not you could create a bumpsteer monster.

Yep, been looking at that. This is why they do this with the big black steel bracket:

I am not a big fan of that, but it may be necessary unless I dream something else up..

And braxx, unless you nail the geometry dead nuts, bump steer will give you what you had on yer Regal.
