Need help getting a lawyer moving on a matter

Loooong story short.

Mother in law needs to get the "family lawyer" who is the executor of the trust to do his job. It's approaching 5 years now for wrapping things up. The need is urgent because she has taxes and other expenses that need to be paid out of this money or they will start tax default forclosure.

This guy only answers occasionally, is always working on things and can never seem to accomplish anything. Any advice from Motown before I just start random calling attorneys?

Thanks in advance and hope everyone is doing good.

I'd go and have a sit down/face to face with this person and tell them to get off their ass. Meanwhile I'd also find someone else to handle that business, based on what you stated, seems that this person is not interested in doing it.

You need a very good & aggressive Probate Attorney.
After 5 years, I would not approach this ""family lawyer"
alone (that hasn't worked to-date).

You need to have this case / Trust looked-over and then
have that new Attorney have a meeting with the "family lawyer".

Yes it will cost some money, but not doing it sounds like it will
cost a lot more!

Finding a good Attorney, who is also a good fit for your case
can be a real challenge, but pray & continue to seek recommendations.

If you think this ""family lawyer" isn't doing his job,
or you suspect there maybe other problems with your
family trust, you might consider having an audit done
on it (by others outside of it).
