Need help! Ford dealer refuses to fix my dads 2013 Ford Focus!

C'mon....You do understand that those comments come from a salesman don't you? He's got splinters in his ass from riding the fence for so long.....;)

Sounds like her vehicle has an issue. I said Europeans accept the way a dual clutch transmission shifts. The problems your "woman's" (sorry you didn't clarify the relationship further ) car is experiencing is not normal. There is a shudder, but that seems excessive. As for a shit design, maybe, but it's a trade off for MPG.

Last I checked, I didn't design or build the fucking things. I'm simply stating that the dual clutch transmission isn't a smooth shifting standard slush box.
 
Yeah its definitely not normal. I shudders and bangs into gears hard. My old man works nights in the middle of the ghetto I would hate for this POS to break and something happen to him....
 
Consumer Reports is not always 100% correct, but they pretty much
nailed it on this one. 2011 & older is the way to go on buying a Focus.

I remember when these Focus' came out new, some friends kids got some
nice temporary jobs driving these new cars to put "break in miles" on them
from the factory.

I have also seen some government auctions where they were selling these
newer cars with very low mileage - they were dumping them, which is very
rare.

I had a 2012 focus auto for 2 years and I got rid of it because the trans shifted "odd". Never a reliability issue I just did not like it. My brother-in-law and mother -in-law have a 2014s and they shift much better. I think they must have done a redesign/update on the 14s. I do miss the 32mpg average and overall it rode nice and looked good.

Consumer reports does not recommend the Focus ST but it only comes in a manual so they are not recommending the Focus for more reasons than the auto transmission.

Mine doesn't and never has even at 110,000 miles.

From what I have gathered past the leaky input seal it comes down to the driver. If you baby it, the clutch chatters like a manual car, if you beat on it well... Its a damn entry level economy car, it's going to break. Most people who have it complain that the auto doesn't work like a traditional converter based auto. The learning period is a bit funky as well after a battery disconnect, reflash or the purchase of a new car.

It sounds to me like there is either an issue with the car and/or the car and the driver. I have yet to see one "automated manual" that has been sorted out and to a point where no one complains about it.

I see where you are coming from but there is defiantly an issue with this transmission and my pop is not the only one. It chatters really bad and bangs in to gears. Sometimes just trying to take off is a no bueno.

Yes, your fathers is a problem transmission. You just need to push for a buy back.

This. We are just too familiar with the classic style auto trans, that anything less smooth is weird. That being said..

OP, if the car has already gotten the updated clutch/input shaft seal kit, and a reflash and you're still having issues with getting the car to take off, or very horrible/hard shifts, then it's likely that the TCM could be failing. The TCM's failing in these is not rare either unfortunately. I would first have a talk with the service manager at your dealership, or just call Fords customer service hotline and have them work with you and the dealer directly. They will have to be involved anyway with a buyback if it leads to that.
 
They have had more than enough opportunities to fix the problem.
I wouldn't waste another minute with the dealer.
Get an attorney and force them to buy the car back.

Force "FORD" not the dealership. This is a Ford problem, not a dealer problem.
