Ok it's a 1991 ford f250. hears what I got so far. Put the key in and I get nothing so sound no dash lights nothing. but when i jump out the starter relay it will start and then stop after a second. i checked all the fuseable links on the starter relay and they are good. but i did get one of the lines that comes off the relay to start the truck from the key but only when i put the line directy on the 12 volt side of the relay. my haynes manual is useless. so anybody have any more ideas for me to check before i have to spend money to have it tow and checked out at a repair shop. thank you in advance.

Sounds like a bad relay or ignition switch, the stopping is probably due to an immobilizer of some sort

already changed the ignition switch in the steering wheel. thats what the haynes told me to do. but it says nothing about immobilizers. where would i look first? neutal safty switch fuel pump? like i said the my manual is useless.

time to get out a test light and some shcematic and start chassing power around the truck. Make sure to use a test light with a bulb not an LEd. they tend to show false positives becuase they don't require alot of power. Also make sure to test the circut with demand on it. I have seen low amount of conductivity light up a test light but when you put on demand it goes open from a poor connection.

replaced both pos and neg cables.
