My son wants to buy a used Chrysler 300. Anybody own one? What are their quirks? We are looking to spend $4,000- $5,000. Thanks.
Suspension is not its strongest points, and the baby v6's are slugs in those cars.
ThanksI've had three of them, all 3.5 V6. Solid cars. My last one was a 2009. Did nothing but oil changes. Put 80K miles on it before trading it in. Original everything, even the brakes and tires. No issues whatsoever.
ThanksWe've had three cars from that platform
1st gen:
2007 Charger SE (3.5 V6) - pretty gutless, no powertrain issues, craptastic Chrysler interior typical of the 90s/2000s, but as mentioned it did need ball joints and destroyed the insides of the front tires due to it.
2nd gen:
2014 Charger R/T (5.7 Hemi) - great car, loved everything about it.
2015 Chrysler 300s - beautiful car, nice to look at, smooth on the road... but we had transmission issues. Hunted all over the place for the correct gear, held gear too long, etc. Great car hampered by a shit transmission (others on here have had no problems, but I have heard similar complaints elsewhere)
At your price point, you're looking at a first gen car. Which means about the only thing going for it would be the V8 Hemi and a stout (if basic) 5-speed automatic transmission. The second gen cars are nicer to look at, miles better interiors, less front end issues... but I didn't like the 8 speed at all. Personally, I think the money spot is early second gen cars with the Hemi V8 and the older 5 speed auto.

I've had the same issues with the transmission on my 2014 300S. Valve body replaced twice and "re-calibration" done 3 times. The re-calibration seems to resolve the issue for a couple of miles, which is a joke. The valve body replacement resolved the issues for a couple of months every time. At least I got a loaner car every time I brought it in, which made it less of a hassle.
I thought the 300S V6 has a 845RE transmission and the Scat Packs and Hellcats have a 8HP70.
Not sure what the differences are but nothing but problems with the 845RE.
uncle b do you have sport mode? if not I can add it
You are crazy....no hellcat or scat pak guys complain about it, driven my dads 8 speed ram and it acts perfect
I know in jeep grand cherokees they seemed slower unless in sport mode/ eco mode sucks on them
