Hello all.
I need some advise.
I know its long.. but any advise will help.. thanks.
I have a 2000 Mustang GT. I had back in 2010 had bought a used 3650 trans and took it to a shop to have it rebuilt because my t45 blew up. I had this shop put the best parts in this thing. Im talking the best of the best. Brass blockers, upgraded input shaft, the whole 9 yards.
Well when i first got the car back from this said shop I drove the car 1000 miles for break-in. About that time it was winter so the car went in storage. Upon bringing it out the following spring I could not get it in any gear except REV, 1st, 2nd, and 5th. The shop gladly took the car back to investigate what happened. Turns out the Royal Purple fulid we put in ate away at all the new brass parts. I did alot of research and found out RP is not good to put in the tremic trans. So he gladly rebuilds it completly again under warranty. I get the car back a month later and didnt even make it throught the 1000 break-in miles before it starts doing the same thing. He goes ahead and installed new forks, syncros, and some other stuff. Car works great for another 1000 and it starts to do it again. He gladly takes the car back in August of 2011 under warranty. He is unable to find out what is causing it. He goes as far as replacing the case. He then finds out when putting it back together that there is 2 different input shafts for that 3650. He was sent the wrong one. So he reorders a new one and puts it in. I get the car back ad the end of may this year. So he had it for 9 months.
the car has been great.. Trans has been working 100% with no complaints. I have prolly put 2500 to 3500 miles on it since may. Well a few weeks ago i noticed a few drops under the car. Its red fulid. So I know its trans fulid. Well I was driving to work today and it started doing the same thing as it did from the beginning. Just not as bad. Just poping out of third and grinding while going in.
He last time when he had it for 9 months was getting really fed up with the project. He said he didn't want to see the car back again.
I just don't know what to do. I kinda feel sorry for the guy because of the nightmare. But i don't have the money to take it else where right now. I could understand if i was out here beating on the trans and missing shifts.. But i havnt..
What should i do? take it back to this shop for another round of warranty work? or but the bullet and take it somewhere else.
Cliff notes..
-t45 blows up.
-bought a used 3650
-rebuild the 3650 with all the best parts offered
-has issues with 3rd gear and goes in to be rebuilt again
-after 1000 miles has the same issue
-guy has for 9 months to find out he had the wrong input shaft
-its doing it again.
So it has been into his shop at least 4 times for the same issue. He claims he has ordered all new part and fully rebuilt it each time. Still have the same issue.
