My Monte

Thought I'd show my project. 85 Monte Carlo SC, t-tops, factory no air, manual windows/locks, and bucket seats. It was my first car which is why I'm dealing with it instead of just finding something else. Been off the road for about eight years now. Slow but steady progress. This was what it looked like originally.

Turned into a body off once I got into it.

First thing was to replace half a floor pan.

Frame work. Had to replace some of the body mount areas. Rust bulleted and top coated.

Holy crap, Yarry lives!

You're not the only one finally building something!

Next step is to put the body back on the frame. Hopefully over thanksgiving I'll be able to do that. I've got to cut the floor open to get something in there because most of the caged nuts are busted.

02 2WD Blazer spindles. They'll let me run the 13" C5 brakes.

Didn't get the body on the frame over thanksgiving, going to try again over Christmas.

Sweet. What is the build plan?

Not going that extreme, more of a cruiser. I want to get a low 12 time slip in the quarter and then be able to have fun at track days or autocross. First iteration is going to be a 383 and a 2004R. I'd like to get a T56 into it, but I haven't been able to find an affordable one from a 94-97 LT1 car, and the rear would probably have to be replaced at the same time. Suspension is 1LE bushings all around, poly body mounts, and bilsteins. Since I'm switching from drop spindles, I need to figure out what springs I want to run. Brakes will be 13" C5 front and 12" LS1 rear. I have a XH steering box and 36mm hollow front sway bar from a GTA, and all of the stock F41 bracing and rear sway bar from the g-body as well. I also forgot to post a picture of the Jeep ZJ steering shaft that I got that is a bolt in replacement.

Pretty much it's just going back together so I can finally drive it again, and then I'll worry about upgrading after I figure out what it's lacking.

Got the rear bushings in, mounted the 12" 98-02 f-body rear brakes, and mocked everything up. Also reinstalled the rear axles and an aluminum diff cover (not shown), so the rear end is completely done with the exception of the brake lines. Ran out of time and had to pull it all back apart though, so still no body on frame. Order is going to go in for a custom set of braided flex lines as soon as I figure out how I want to modify the existing rear lines.

I'm just glad I could still find all of the bolts
