My Arizona Riding Trip (many pics)

I went out to Arizona for a week to visit my Dad. (he lives in Tempe) Had a good time. I rode roughly 1,500 miles in 6 days. My dad just picked up a new BMW F650gs that i did some work with, and he also has an '04 kawasaki zzr600. Anyways, while my dad was out at work i met up with some of the guys from his BMW club and they led me through some bad ass twisty mountain roads. Out there, either you get good or you get dead, not too many side rails out to catch you from falling off the mountains...anyways, just some pictures from my trip....it was 70-80 in the valley the whole time, and a few times up around 8000 ft elevation it was as low as 40 and there was still some snow.

Lake Roosevelt, a guy i met named Geoff next to me. this guy is total baller, had 20 something beemer bikes in his garage, SRT10 Ram, original slant nose porsche and just tons of crazy shit....

On my way up south mountain (it was not a huge one...)

Overlooking the city of phoenix from atop south mountain (where i was standing when gpowrie called me "hey what's up man?"...."Not much, just standing ontop of a mountain"..."huh?"

Stopping in a small mountain town/old mining town called Jerome
IMG_0065.jpg

the typical road signs of a complete U-turn and a suggested speed of 10 mph, i could only do 20 through them on the BMW damn near dragging knee
IMG_0068.jpg

more from Jerome, overlooking the sedone valley IIRC
IMG_0069.jpg

old closed/boarded up mines

cool rod i came across

Another old Mining town, these are everywhere and after the old mines close up, the towns mostly dry up and just have dirt poor squatters, riding through the "area" i didn't get any pictures, not the kindof place i wanted to stop at to pull my camera out...anyways, town of superior the old closed up refinery

More fun twisty roads
IMG_0079.jpg

my dad. they were dynomiting (sp?) the mountain to make a road wider so we were sitting in a small line of traffic for about a half hour...
IMG_0077.jpg

Sunday, group of 11 of us did a huge loop
IMG_0086.jpg

the guy who led our sunday ride had 170K miles on his 2004 FJR1300 he did a ton of those iron butt rides (1K miles in a day) radar detector, garmin GPS with weather and everything...crazy....

riding....

And OSO the long hair chihuahua. this dog is sweet.
IMG_0082.jpg

I have more pictures on my camera. From when we rode sunday and got up so high in the mountains there was still snow on the side of the road

Oh, and one of my dad and I riding home sunday, one of the guys ahead of us got off at his exit and got us going by

Looks like a blast! nice pics. A friend just grabbed up a leftover 08' K1200S... very nice looking bikes.

That's very cool. At least you were out in the good stuff and not in Phoenix where it's straight roads and bad drivers. Someone dies on a bike out there everyday it seems :(

dude, that funny. I was just there as well, got back Tuesday evening, was there for a week. I was at 44th and 202, near the airport, but was working in Tempe.

You hit the Casino's? Weather is fantastic.

Hell yeah! I went to AZ in 05 and I wished I had the chance to ride while i was there...lol It was all i could think about when we went out into the mountains.....
I was stayin in Scotsdale but we went all over... what a cool state!
Glad you had fun...
THe one pic of you looking down at the city reminds me of this one i took while i was there..... I was a lil closer to the edge though

Yea it was a ton of fun. riding back here in michigan will never be the same. i have been spoiled with completely smooth roads with tons of curves!

Yep they are. the guy goeff was riding a K12s on tuesday when i went to roosevelt lake with him and another lady. he had the K12R on friday. scottsdale BMW calls him when they have a new bike in and let him take it for a while to see how he likes them, he usually ends up buying them  he had a few dealer owned bikes in his garage even
i never got to ride with my dad like that... i got into too much trouble with it before i had the chance

Yea i rode through phoenix one day just to see what was up. more people on bikes die from not being able to hold a line and riding off the side of a mountain more than anything.

 my dad lives around baseline and I-10. great area. that airport is a cluster fuck though. no casinos for me, i'm way too cheap to even put a dollar in a machine and lose it.
Looks like alot of fun

The motorcycle riding and the views looked better then casino's.
Indeed. I saw so much more sweet stuff that while riding i never was able to snap pictures of

Forgot about the few others on my camera...a couple of the snow at the side of the roads around 8000ft elevation, fuck it gets cold up there. thankfully the BMW has heater grips :thinkerg:
