I have a 1988 mustang GT with only the ignition key. I need the key for the doors and back hatch. Can I get keys made at the dealer, using the VIN# or can a locksmith help. Any suggestions.

Thanks,

the vin won't help. ford didn't support that back then. a locksmith could make a key off a door cylinder though. probably 15-25 dollars. if the original warranty card is still with it by chance, they sometimes wrote the key codes on them. the ignition would be FAxxxx, door/trunk would be FBxxxx, for example. hope this helps. jim.

Dealers only keep records back 10years or so i've been told by a few ford dealers. I lost my keys to a 95.

A lock smith should get you set up right

you could buy a whole new set of lock cylinders for all three for cheap. Check local auto parts places.

They will come keyed alike.

american lock and key

they are great, I got keys for a 62 fairlane I had a while back, I didn't get any keys with it, but I took a door lock cylinder, a the ignition cylinder to them, and for $40 they had me 2 of each, original blanks, overnight

I bought a lock set from Ford. It was about 40 bucks or so at the time. I'm not sure if they are still availible.

It included 2 keys, 2 door lock cylinders, 1 hatch/trunk cylinder. It might have even had a lock cylinder for the glove box too.

If you can't get it from Ford, try Ebay. It's a small insurance policy when buying a used car....making sure the owner didn't "keep" a spare key.
