Motown - how would you feel about chemicals being stored next to your home?

So I have a neighbor that, while they are very wealthy compared to the rest of us blue collar folk in the neighborhood, are the type who feel they should be above the rules. They have been starting turf wars with all of their neighbors, except for me. They're just mad I won't allow them to pave a 10' wide section of my backyard they have "right of access" on to be able to park behind their home. It's behind my fence but it's also easement for the utility company to access the poles.

Anyways, that's old news. So their sons are my age or older. Very douchey. The type that launch their piece of shit imports in the street and fly through the neighborhood doing a solid 10-20mph above the limit (with no sidewalks so kids and pedestrians are on the shoulder walking and bicycling) ... One of them just franchised with the company "Mosquito Squad", and had a POD delivered on their property about 20' from my home. Their F150 reappeared in its livery. They have in the past 7 days sprayed their own property twice with pesticides.

I am about 90% certain that in that POD shipping container is their storage for these pesticides. Something I do NOT want stored next to my home with my 1 year olds room and window maybe 50' away from it.

Do I have proof that he is keeping pesticides in it? I haven't seen them, no. But the truck has no equipment in the back of it. They also placed cameras to watch the pod. Department of Ag. has lots of rules for storing bulk pesticides. And being I am probably 200 feet away from the lake I am sure they are not allowed to keep it here, let alone in a residential area.

What would you guys recommend? I've tried finding them at home but they never seem to want to answer and the wife----well from witnessing her behavior with other neighbors---ran up to one who wrote a letter to the township against a zoning variance they were asking for to build a structure asking "what right he had" to do that.... Never mind the township asked all of us to give our opinions on the matter. The concern was for emergency crews not being able to get between homes.)-----she likes to start yelling and cussing.

Do I pursue the suspicion of improperly stored chemicals with the department of agriculture? Wait until I see inside it?

Without 100% proof it'd be difficult to do anything without getting yourself in trouble. Do you think you'd get any headway by contacting the franchise headquarters and voicing your concerns?

Pesticides or cover for a Meth lab in a POD?

Contact the township and see about the zoning of a comercial business in your neighborhood. A call to the EPA asking about how a neighbor is conducting business with pesticides in a shipping container would raise some eyebrows hopefully.

I am pretty sure the storage container must be air/water tight to store any type of chemical/agents. And also must have proper spill procedures in place especially located near water.

Call the EPA for sure.. they need to earn their paychecks.

Call the city with your concerns and have them send out an inspector. If there's something in there that violates any city ordinances they would be the ones to flag it.

If you want, you can say you thought you smelled chemicals coming from their storage container, and were concerned because they just recently started a pesticide company, and just wanted to make sure everything was safe for your kids. They'd be hard-pressed to not investigate it coming at it from that angle.

The township zoning board has a member he is very friendly with. They dont enforce shit on him.

This...

If I had kids and I saw this... I can promise you a firework would of been "misfired" towards that pod...

Or what they said above...
If not, and he is buddies with zoning, that's not right either.
Go above that if zoning won't do anything.

Call the epa

Report them to PODS that you think they may be storing hazardous materials in one of their units.

Yeah...isn't there some zoning issue with that?

Some very good places to report your concerns.
I would report to ALL of them at once. Start with the
Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA). They regulate
pesticide use in Michigan. http://www.michigan.gov/mdard/0,4610,7-125-2762---C,00.html

I know this because I’m a Commercially Certified Pesticide Applicator
6, 3A, 3B & 10. By the State of Michigan.

Fantastic. I wish I knew someone who would "investigate" and take a peek inside the container so I could know for sure what was in it...

Do you need a go pro pointed toward it? I have an old VHS camera with a zoom lens you can have and AC power. It was last used to record the Consumers Energy guys tearing up my yard and not replacing it.

What Bill said: ALL THE ABOVE.
His buddies on the zoning board cannot do anything for him when the Michigan DNR, Dept of Ag, or the EPA knock on the door.
If you smell ANYTHING, I would think it's meth, right? I would bet local law enforcement would certainly want to get a look inside. Then even if it's NOT drug-related, those cops will know regulated chemicals when they smell them. I would bet their report would find some interest.

Simply report it suspicious / suspected - others
do their job & hopefully this will get resolved.

Take photos of your concern, write a brief report
& submit it. I have done this very thing in the past
and got a MDA investigator to respond.
