Auto Thefts Decline 6.8 Percent in 2011
LANSING – The Michigan Automobile Theft Prevention Authority (ATPA) recently announced that auto thefts in Michigan have decreased 6.8 percent from 2010 to 2011. Since the inception of the ATPA in 1986, auto thefts in Michigan have decreased by over 65 percent.
“Our success in the battle against auto theft is the direct result of the dedication and efforts of the 110 men and women who are funded by grants awarded by the ATPA to Michigan law enforcement agencies, prosecuting attorney’s offices and nonprofit community organizations,” said Dan Vartanian, Executive Director of the ATPA. “Thanks also should be directed to our partners in the fight against auto theft: Crime Stoppers, HEAT (Help Eliminate Auto Thefts) and the many insurance industry investigators throughout the state.”

IDK about this I have only 100 friends on facebook and 4 of them have had a car stolen last year.

Do they all park with their windows down and keys in the ignition outside of liquor stores on livernois?

Most of those are Chrysler so they do not have any theft keys. Idk how they're getting 05 F-150's...maybe pushing them down the street with another car or towing them.

04 Impala and the 11 Malibu should have theft keys too.

You think "theft" keys stop anyone?

How about the car makers that put anti-theft keys on just about everything? Even though they're defeatable it deters theft and the theif goes after one of the junks on the list. And what about 90% of the citizens of Detroit owning "the club"?

I don't think the cops are catching more theives, the theives' jobs just got harder.

I can tell you all the f150 pats does is disable the start circuit... once the vehicle is running, pats is not needed.

I feel bad for the owners of those stolen cars.
Based on the type of vehicle the owners probably don't have much money and based on the age of the vehicles they most likely aren't insured for theft.
The poor stealing from the poor. Sad

Fuel pump defeat switch. $0.69 at Radio Shack and unless they're VERY good probably will just walk away once it conks out. Plus it'll usually run a few seconds letting them move it, so it isn't classified as just "vandalism."

You just have to put it in a location that's hard to find.

A relay wired to a pressure switch under the carpet is a good one.
