Messin with the tig welder

I'm no Josh (by any means) but I managed to stick two pieces of aluminum together. Usually I wind up with a pile of melted aluminum. It doesn't help that my tig is the oldest working tig welder in the country. The Smithsonian found out I had it and wanted it. It's an old Lincoln made in from 1959. It's kinda finicky, but the more I use it the smoother the arc gets. If I let it sit for too long unused it runs like shit. I figure once I get good with this machine I'll be a pro once I buy a new Synchrowave.

i think we have a miller that has that one beat, its the size of al full size fridge.

I may have both of you beat with an ancient Hobart its an Industrial Deal with a hook welded on top of it like you see at Big Job Site so it can be moved around with a Crane :jawdrop2:

I tried welding with a machine like that once and it's tough. I think if you tried a modern machine you would have a lot better luck :)

I have steel/stainless/ferrous metals down pretty good, it's the aluminum that's tricky. My buddy has a new Miller Synchrowave I'm gonna mess with next time I'm out there. I'm sure it will be a night and day difference. My torch is old too, I think I'm gonna upgrade that pretty soon. I have a cooler and a couple older water cooled torches that came with the welder, but I haven't used them yet.

A little more. I just gotta keep practicing. I'm almost out of argon right now though.

That made me laugh out loud for real.

I usually have no luck with aluminum. I was using it last week to weld up the pipe for my minibike, and the welder started working way better all of a sudden, so I figured I'd try some aluminum. I think the old girl just needs some excercise.
