Matt Hughes v.s. BJ Penn.....

sorry to bring this thread back....but I HAD to add my two cents...GSP will NOT beat hughes. HE (GSP) beat BJ on decision and couln't finish BJ Penn...BJ has poked his last two opponents in the eye..(Hughes and GSP)...BJ Penn SHOULD have had better conditioning. GETTING caught in ANY move is great but if you can't finish the fight you go from being a great fighter to just an average fighter. I have heard a lot of guys say Hughes didn't beat BJ, BJ beat himself. That my friends is PART of a good fighter. Matt showed why he is the best and will remain there! HE is the complete package. AND UNTIL he loses he will be named the best. GSP BETTER be on his game because GSP doesn't have the take-down defense BJ has and will not pull his legs over his head while in his guard against Hughes.when BJ fought GSP.... BJ was CONTROLLING that fight too...BUT GSP couldn't close that fight out.

I do agree that Matt has the heart of a champion. His heart is what won him the fight. The whole eye poking thing can be argued but BJ was beating him down before that indcident. BJ had 6 weeks to train for this fight. Their is no way his cardio was up to par for this fight. BJ DID beat himself. Matt's weakiness was very clear. He has no standup game. I really hope Matt and BJ fight again.

As far as GSP goes he has a better standup than Matt. In their first fight GSP was definitely keeping up with Matt. He landed a nice spinning back kick that threw Matt across the ring. GSP made an elementary BJJ mistake when he tried to go for the Kimura from his back in an open guard. Matt countered it into an armbar and won the fight. You are correct that GSP did not finish BJ but he was able to take him down. What does that say? Plus the fact that BJ has way better takedown defense than Matt. I think GSP will come into the fight with great cardio. GSP matches up good with Matt as far as size and strength. It will be a great fight.

I think GSP beats Matt Hughes. He's like BJP lite but with much better cardio.

I don't like or dislike Hughes but I think his ability is vastly overrated. He's a very strong guy with a big heart but you'd have to be nuts to watch him fight Penn or GSP the first time and not see they both waaaaaay more skilled.

Penn gassing doesn't make Hughes the better fighter. Maybe better guy at not passing out while being dominated so hard for ten minutes the other nearly guy passes out

I just hate being sold on something, and I think the UFC tries way to hard with Hughes.

well...with all the speculation we will have to wait and see. You are correct...GSP took BJ down...Matt did not take down BJ till the third.
As far as Matt being a better fighter or BJ being a better fighter...I will say it again. IF you GAS you will lose. Many times I have beat people THAT were way better wrestlers but THEY gas. They cant keep up and I catch them in a move. I win...does that make me a better fighter...HELL yes. same goes for Matt. Technically....BJ is a better fighter BUT NO stamina no win...

Matt was better prepared that night. He had a few months to prepare for the fight. BJ had 6 weeks.
