315plus said:His eye got poked!! It happens all the time, he was crying to the ref... Bj should have jumped all over him, no one stopped the fight(matt hughes did).. you don't stop fighting because your eye got poked, the fight was not going his way so he took a break, and regrouped with that stoppage... Oh and the played no role in the fight, it was a poke it got all better after the stoppage

INSTG8R said:So what happened? I really wanted to see this fight but didn't get a chance to. How did Hughes beat him? How many rounds did it go? 3? Also, who won the Swick/Loiseau fight? That was looking to be another good one.
I was also wondering why Hughes fought Penn for the title. GSP beat Penn a couple months back, shouldn't he have been next in line to fight Hughes? Or is he injured or something I'm missing.
315plus said:Hughes won in 3, referee stopped it.. Hughes was on top, and had had Bj's arm tied up, and was beating him up... Swick won by decision, kind of a boring fight
DBK said:Matt Hughes didn't beat BJ Penn, 6 weeks of training camp beat BJ Penn. When Hughes said he was sorry BJ didn't show up conditioned for a 5 round fight, he should have said "thank god", not "I'm sorry". Penn was clobbering Hughes at will for 10 minutes(from the opening bell, not because of the eye poke), then ran out of gas harder than probably anyone I've ever seen. He was literally standing there getting punched in the face with his hands at his waist
If Penn had sunk that armbar/triangle with 2 minutes to go instead of 45 seconds, it'd be a different story.
sonicnotch said:dude, an eye poke makes a big difference and the fight does stop if that happens, didnt you see the penn vs gsp fight? same thing happened there, he poked gsp in the eye and it totally changed the fight. it does happen a lot, and when it happens the fighter is allowed all the time they need to recover. also it was a good strategy by hughes, he knew penn wouldnt last because penn barely ever lasts more than 2 rounds. he always gets a fast win or he looses by decision because he runs out of gas. you say "penn's lack of conditioning lost the fight" well isnt that the same as "hughe's great conditioning won the fight"? im not takin anything away from bj penn, he's a bad mofo and i honestly thought the only way hughes could win is by getting through the first 2 rounds. INSTG8R, gsp was supposed to fight hughes, but had a groin injury, so penn got the fight. and i agree with you, gsp and penn are the only guys that can beat hughes right now.
