Lost my best friend friday (Boxer goodness inside)

After 11 years of the most loyal and protective dog i could have ever asked for, i lost my best friend. She went on her time, in her own fashion without suffering. This was MY first dog and i had no idea what to expect. i got married, had kids and this dog was awesome. She was off leash trained, and never tore anything (other than the trash) up. When i wasn't home she was on guard and wouldn't let anyone near my wife and kids. My hear broke as we took our last car ride and she jammed her muzzle into my neck and took her last breath.

My wife has never been without a dog and, is an impatient person at times. I had no intentions on getting another dog for a while but, she just had to go looking "just because". After a little nudging and explaining how my 8 year old was ready for "his dog" and my 2 year old needed a guardian we ended up with another. Our initial intention was another female but ended up with a male simply because he chose us. I ended up with my first one the same way, went with a buddy who was getting a boxer as i was squatting down to look at them one crawled up in my lap and fell asleep. I was done for. This time was much the same, as my wife was playing with the female she thought she wanted, i picked up the male, he layed on my lap, licked my finger and fell asleep. After a little nudging she was on me and my sons side to get the male that had chosen us.

Introducing Luke. (my son was watching Episode IV at the time)

sorry to hear about the passing and congrats on the newest addition!

So sorry buddy. I cant even think about that day. When I was dealing with a very hard time in my life for over 3 years, my dog never left my side. He new I was not well, and he did everything he could everyday to make things better. They truly are a part of the family.

Congrats on the new pup!!!!

In my opinion.......

The greatness of mans best friend is balanced by shortness of life. Part of what makes them so special is you know to spoil them because they are never around for as long as you want.

Been through this 4 times, IT NEVER gets easier. I tear up just reading this. Your LOYAL SASSY is in doggie heaven now.

Congrats on the new Lil guy.

RIP Sassy, dogs are like family and I agree, there is no better bread for having young kids. We are on our 3rd boxer and they have always been awesome with the kids and great protectors of the home. She won't be alone up there, she has many great friends up there to play. I know my first two will be there to welcome her and show her the ropes!

Our 3rd boxer is the first one we have had to make it past 5 years old, he turns 6 in october and still has a clean bill of health. I love the bread and it tears me up that this bread seems to have some many health issues :(

Last year my mother tearfully decided to take her little
best friend to the Vet. Mom was assured that her dog
was indeed failing, so I escorted her & her best little buddy
to the Vet.

The Vet took her dog to carry him to the medical room,
where my mom would join him, the vet quickly returned
informing us that he died in her arms as she carried him…….
everyone in that building was crying, my mother, the Vet,
the front office gals, the customers…………and me.
