Looking for advise on a wireless router

I need to replace my router. Its a complete POS and keeps dropping the signal. I get constant errors that multiple devises are using the same IP address. Its an older TP Link dual band router. The 2.4 is so slow its unusable. The 5ghz is fast but too unreliable. I am resetting the system at least once a day. There are only 2 other signals that reach my house. A TP link router and an ATT.

I have Comcrap with the Motorola Surfboard modem. I have a surveillance system that plugs into the modem.

I have a small house so extended range isn't an issue. I have 2 apple tv's, phone, ipad 2 laptops, 2 desktops, printer, smart tv. I download torrents. Stream to and from the apple tv's.


Not looking to spend a ton on a router but want something that is going to be reliable.

Any good suggestions are appreciated.

ive tried multiple others. used to have to reset them all the time. got this airport extreme and havent had to touch it since installed and way faster it seems like

I have a bunch of RT-AC66 and RT-AC68. Kind of difficult to beat the price if you want dual WAN with a COTS interface. I have one in the house, one in the garage, one in the garden shed, and a bunch in the woods.

Once in a while I do have VPN problems but I think it's comcrap getting in the way.

The problem with the mesh products I've seen on the market are that they all seem to be tightly integrated with a cloud provider. I'd personally rather avoid that dependency for security/privacy reasons, if possible.

The Netgear Nighthawks perform well, but they're not cheap. AC2350 would be my minimum and that's going to run $150 when on sale. Wifi range and performance is hard to beat.
The MicroTiks are nice if you're a geek, but since you're asking the question, I can't recommend one to you. High learning curve and not worth the effort unless you live IT.
TP-Links are a solid, cheap alternative so long as you pick one that can run an aftermarket firmware and wifi coverage range isn't your top concern. OEM firmware blows.

Try to find one on clearance on Walmart using Brickseeker. I got a $300 router for $49.
