Had that happen at a shop I worked at in San Diego.
It was a Ford Ranger, the customer was at a coffee shop when it happend...He came walking up as the tow truck was DRAGGING out of the bay.:icon_eek:

Ive seen this happen not once, but twice. Once was an GMC 2500 and the other time it was a grand am GT.

The 2500 fell all the way from the top. The tech didnt set the rear arms right and they just kicked out, and the fronts went up into the wheel well and just about ripped the fenders off the truck. The grand am went down when 1/2 the hoist failed, it landed on a rather large oil change catch drum and split it down the side. I would estmate that it spilled 30 gallons of oil under the fallen car.

My garage is an old gas station, which had an old inground single post lift with no safety. People wondered why I took it out.

And my friends wonder why I'm always hesitant to get under a car on the lift / put my car on one...

I like the drive on / off ones.

Any pics of your shop:)

No not really, it looks more like a regular garage now, 2 bays, workbenches and restroom. Nothing fancy. Here's the back corner with tool box, blast cabinet, press, wood stove and portable welding table.
