Seriously considering corrective eye surgery soon.
Looking for feedback/recommendations on Dr's in Oakland/Macomb county.
So tired of my glasses and contacts........

Thanks in advance.

My wife had it done about 10 years ago. Her eyes are back to as bad as they were prior to the procedure. She was 18 (too young) when she had it done. A lot has changed in the years though. Im not sure how old you are or how bad your eyesight is. Just something to keep in mind. I do know that when she had it done, and others who recently had it done, said it is amazing at the difference it makes

Send a PM to 99SaleenSpeedster. His buddy Howard has his own office, is a car guy, has done his/his brothers eye etc.

Adelson Eye and Laser Center - Howard is my buddy and his brother Todd also works with him. He has done mine, my brothers, my uncles, and is going to do my dad's soon. His laser is very new and everything is done with it now, whereas when my brother had it done by home about 10 years ago, the flap was cut manually. Tell them I referred you. Number is 248-449-9292

The real question is - How old are you?

All of my older friends who have had it
done said it didn't last as long as they
hoped it would.

You only get so many years benefit from
it. And it seems the older you are when
you get it done, the shorter it lasts.

Do your research and when you're done,
research it some more.

Had mine done because I was near sighted. Was great for a while but now that i'm an old fart I need cheaters cuz now I'm far sighted. FML!

I've had friends telling me for years to get it done, and I never did because I wanted to wait and see what the long term effects on others were. I'll just wait till I'm an old fuck and get synthetic lenses implanted in my eyeballs. Contacts and glasses don't bother me at all.

10 years ago by dr biteman in west bloomfield

cost me $4k for both eyes. they weren't bad either.

but my eyes have actually got better! year after the surgery they were 20/18 20/15

last week they were 20/10 20/11

all laser. no blades

Can you have the surgery again if needed or is it a one time thing? I'd be nice to not have to worry about contacts anymore and at $600 for a years supply, the surgery would pay for itself after a couple years.

I used this guy http://www.cvi2020.com/ Clavenna did mine, my wife used his partner Fitzgerald.
I had it done in my mid 40's... and yes it still regresses. I've actually lost my sight in both eyes and had so many surgery's... so I no longer can attest to the benefit.
Several things they tend to not tell you.
Most will give you free "touch ups" if it regresses in the first year.... you really need this to be life time.... but, if the "flap" they cut seals to tightly in some cases (like in 6+ years) they can not go back and give you the touch up. Your done.
Also, they are working on a process using 3 rings of cut. This will give you perfect distance mid range AND close up.... how ever its not approved yet. Check with your Dr and see when this new process will be available. I would want this.
Also, don't care who you are-every one need bifocals after a certain age. By 50 you most likely will need them. (Unless this new 3 ring process eliminates the need.... not sure, I think it does)
In most cases, the sight you have 24 hrs after surgery will be like superman (at least it was for me) Colors look more brilliant, fantastic detail..... I was amazed. I would not hesitate to have it done. My original vision was like 20-200 or worse.

I had it done about 5 years ago with Dr Yaldo. My vision wasn't as bad as others (I could theoretically drive without glasses/contacts but didnt). I'm glad that I had it done. I haven't had my eyes tested in a few years but I haven't had any issues since. Like you, I was tired of glasses and contacts so I decided that it was time. Go for it.

Best money I ever spent.

My biggest fear was feeling like it wasn't worth the money. Everyday I am so happy that I did it.

I saw Dr. Michelle Akler. She has offices in Dearborn and in Sterling Heights.

I got a total laser procedure. Consult was a couple hours and my eyes were dilated for a few days so sunlight was kind of uncomfortable. Wear sunglasses to that appointment.

Actual surgery is about 2 minutes. You'll get prepped with a quick eye exam, take a few valium to relax you, and then the procedure is over before you know it. You feel nothing but some suction over your eye for about 5 seconds which causes you to lose your vision - that's when they make the laser cut to open the flap on your eyeball.

She is an amazing doctor. I have recommended her several times. My cousin saw her and she is very happy as well.

I had astigmatism and was near sighted.

Now I am 20/15. I see everything.

If any of you care you share, I would really like to know:

1) How old were you when you had this done?
2) How long have you now lived with this?
3) Did you need any “touch ups” or any have regression?
4) How long did your doctor tell you this would last?

I would love to have this done, but I fear I’m too old
(I’d still end up wearing glasses?)

You can have it done later down the road if needed, and I had it done at 27, my father in law it done around 58 or so. I'm 36 now and am still the same prescription as when I first had it done, my father in law wears reading glasses and thats it. We had it done by Dr Tayfour in Windsor. And the only real age restriction is if you are too young and your eyes haven't settled, I was told by my optometrist they don't like the procedure on anyone under 17 if they can help it.

Good info, keep it coming!
I'm 47 and a -10....
I don't expect to not have to wear readers(it would be great not to though).
My low light vision has gone to shit in the past couple of years as well.

I used Dr. Haddad at the Laser Eye Institute on Big Beaver. My sister used him before me and my wife's cousin used them after me. All have had great results. I was blind as a bat with a strong astigmatism and now see 20/15. Best money I've ever spent not in Tijuana.

2) How long have you now lived with this? 14
3) Did you need any “touch ups” or any have regression? No
4) How long did your doctor tell you this would last? I don't remember, but it really doesn't matter. The technology has changed since then. Go get a free consultation.

I do remember him telling me it wouldn't prevent me from needing reading glasses eventually, almost everyone does.
