Laptop/TV question

Can you hook a laptop up to a TV so you can watch downloaded stuff? Like stuff I can't figure out how to burn to a DVD.

Depends on your laptop. You obviously need a way to input a video signal into your laptop. If you have a very high-end laptop it may have a video input for this purpose, if not you'll need an appropriate card and software to capture video from an external source.

Plug your S-vid into your PC and then into your TV. See what happens.

Normally S-video is an output so you can put a DVD in and watch it on the TV.

depending on the laptop, you might have to "direct" the signal. If I remember correctly it's Function+f4, but am probably wrong.

I think you guys are missing it...he doesn't want to capture TV, he wants to display things on his laptop on his regular TV; use the TV like a monitor.

If your laptop has an S-vid output your video card may support it already.

Otherwise you'll need a video card that can translate the computer signal to the TV. I had to buy a card that had a DVI output so I could plug into my bigscreen.
