Laptop Suggestions.....

Well I'm in the market for a laptop for school. My mom wants to take over my PC, junk her PC, and get me a laptop. How can I argue with that? Since I'll be using it the 2-3 years for school and a bit after I graduate I want something nice. What have you guys had luck with? NO DELLS!!! FUCK DELL!!! And I'm not looking to spend top $ on a Mac. Something decent in the $800-1300 range.

I'm hoping for...
1 gig ram
80+gig HD...7200rpm
DVD burner (or atleast DVD player)
15.4" screen
Built in wireless

I'd really like Microsoft Office to come with it because its $200 to get it after. A buddy showed me a really good deal on an Acer setup and on newegg it has awesome reveiws but I've never personally used one.
 
Will the new mac laptops run Word and some other PC based software? Id like to get a new laptop as well but Im thinking about trying out a mac, my cousins been using them for years and he swears by them.

Sorry old school blazers FTL!!! lol Just fuckin with ya. From friends and personal experience dells are peices of shit. I had a buddy who had one. His dog started flipping out and clawing on his bedroom door. He went into his room to see why the dog was freaking out and the thing was like 30 seconds from catching fire. The keys were actually melting! He ran into the kitchen, grabbed an oven mitt, and tossed the fucker out the window into a snowbank!
 
I like IBM and HP/Compaq but only the prfessional models not the $399.00 junk you see in the sunday payper.
 
My work uses nothing but IBM Think pads (I have one) Not a gaming machine but for my needs it is GREAT! At home my Laptop is Compaq and I have not had a single issue with it, but is really only used for E-Surfing and have a Sony for my Desk Top at home.
 
Looking at some lap top stuff I have realized that my work lap top must have cost a fortune. Just going by features and prices of some things I have found browsing around.

I swear by 'em too.

The new macs will run WINDOWS, lol...like an application...

I've got a copy of OSX office if you want to turn to the dark side.
 
the Hps are a good deal for what you get. I got an alienware which wasn't much more than the same hp. Plus it looks cool
 
For what it matters I use it for Office, internet, music, and online chatting. The only games I play are dumb flash games and solitare. I just can't stand lag... My gf has a Dell Inspiron 2000 or 2200 and it's a POS. Starting the fucker up takes 10 minutes
 
I like HP/Compaq. I have a mid-range compaq back 2 years ago and it still kicks a$$. (2800+, 512MBDDR, 40gig and a dvd player/ cd burner)
