Jack shaft garage door openers

Any recommendations?

I need one. Insulated door.

I think that’s what they are called.

Mount on the wall next to door.

I have a liftmaster 8500. It opens my 2-car insulated door. Its a little slow but it is nice to have the over-head space.

Did you install it?

I need track to get the door higher too.

Sidewayscoupe dad does this for a living, but I hate to bother the new born parents!

Yea, install was super easy. I have a normal height track. From what I read, the track work isn't terrible either.

As far as the opener install, you just need to make sure the opener is positioned correctly so the drive lines up with the spring shaft. It is attached to the shaft with set screws.

Lift master 8500 works great 8' high 3 panel insulated door. Also a must is the MyQ homelink Smart Hub. The hub allows you to open and close your door from anywhere with your smart phone. Also you get alerts on your phone when it opens and closes and see if it open or closed. Ifyou leave your house and think did I forget to close the door. Check you phone, it will let you know if it's open or closed. If it's open you can close it with your phone from anywhere.

I was going to get one of those for my garage door, when the opener gear broke. I called a company to install one and the guy said that while they work OK, he really didn't recommend them unless you really need one. He said they could repair my opener for $90 and save $400 of the $500 opener and installation cost. So, an opener company steered me away from getting one....Just my .02....grr

I put a hoist in couple weeks ago. I need the opener moved to get car all the way up.

I have cameras inside and out. But opening with phone would still be nice

I'll be putting the 8500 into my new construction home...they are on Amazon for a seemingly decent price. I definitely want the MyQ, and since it's a new build anyway, there's really no financial impact to having them tuck the rails to the ceiling on the initial install.

So, do the jackshaft openers really operate much slower than the standard type? I'll have a 16'x8' door.

I think I bought mine new from an eBay seller or Amazon. It was around $350 if I remember correctly (cheaper than any place that quoted me locally)

Its not super slow but it's definitely not fast. I'll time it later. It's nice that it has a deadbolt lock in the rail too.

I have 3 liftmaster 8500s, 2 on insulated doors, one non-insulated. I really like them but have had all 3 control panels fail so far. One replaced for free, the other two I had to buy. When one of them failed, it opened the door without notification while we were away. Install was pretty straightforward, hardest part was running the wiring. The MyQ is nice. I ordered through a couple of different places that sold garage door parts, just did searches each time and the pricing seemed to vary a bit.

I’d like to buy local in case i had a problem. I haven’t found anyone to sell the extra track yet. Called a couple places today

Bought all of my Liftmaster 8500s off Fleabay. Same for the accessories.

No problem lifting a 16x8 Clopay insulated garage door with 1/4" of ice built up on the inside and frozen to the ground.

The hardest part of the install was getting the shit from the old garage door off the ceiling.

Had one blow a capacitor on the main board, Chamberlain sent me a new board for free and I shipped the old one back in the box the new one came in.

Edit:

Oh, and I've got a bunch of these and I've installed them for other people also. I'll never deal with another overhead door opener again. Even the baller edition belt-drive Chamberlains.

Got prices of 450 with one remote. 620 with two remotes and a keypad.

$1300 for a 8500 installed and changing springs, cables and extending the door up to ceiling.

I used a guy named Bob Sparks. He installed two liftmasters and built a custom track. 586-707-3667. I got my doors from him too.

I timed the garage door opening and closing. Its about 12 seconds to close and 15 to open. Not too long, it just looks slow I guess.
