IP address help

hey i was wondering if anyone on here knew how to look up IP address. I had some girl send me a message on facebook saying things about my girlfriend. her facebook page looks like a fake and i honestly think it could be her one friend or ex boyfriend. is there any way or does anyone know how to trace the IP address just so i can see who it was saying theses things.

Good luck - not going to happen. I don't believe FB exposes the other users IP address to you, and even if they did, all that's going to tell you is their ISP and a very rough geography (city level, maybe). Unless you have an "in" at the ISP that can track it further internally, not going to happen.
 
well i was gonna check that persons ip address then check to see if it was the same or similar with the person i think it was. I found a system on my computer that will allow me to do it but the one that i have, you have to currently be in a chat with the person.
 
You wont be able to get an exact location of where the IP address is from, not without contacting the authorities and having them subpoena the ISP atleast.

that is what i was told to do and worked on another person i tried but my only problem is that she already messaged me and im sure she wont message me again so unless there is a way to do it with a message you already have im probably sol
 
You're not going to get any IP addresses to trace if you don't know someone who works at Facebook or have a warrant.
 
FB chat is not peer to peer, netstat wont do crap. You're not going to get the IP. A tricky way to do it would be to ASK them to chat with you on AIM, THEN netstat...:)
