Inexpensive place on the Eastside to have a Class D CAR AUDIO amplifier repaired??

Ok, here's my problem...

I have 3 amps in my truck and the amp for my subwoofer (Directed *DEI* 1500D) seems to be acting a little tempermental since I left the MM lot this past Friday.

The amp cuts in and out but there is constant power going to the amp. (even when it cuts out the POWER light stays on) The connections to the back of the headunit are all in check, the connections on the amp (remote, power, ground, RCA's, and speaker wires) are all in check, no shorts anywhere along the wires, the fuses are not blowing, it's not getting too hot, etc. It all seems to check out, so I think that there might be some kind of loose connection inside the amplifier. The main reason why I think that is because all the symptoms of an exterior connection problem all check out and the amp always has power going to it. Plus, when I tap on the amp cover it goes in and out. Leading me to believe that there is indeed a small minor connection problem inside.

I'd normally just swap the amp out with a brand new one, but the store I got it from recently stopped carrying this amp thanks to the new models having come out.

So, any recommendations as to where I can take it that will fix it correctly, fast, and cheap? What might a repair like this run?

Thanks in advance.

Alberto

Hey, did you check the ground. My amp was doing the same thing, come to find out my ground wire running to my amp was a bit loose. I just tightened it back up and it was good to go.

Yes I did. Plus, a loose ground would cause the amp's POWER light to go out. That doesn't happen here.

if one of the power wires has a constant connection but can't transfer enough amperage, it can cause your problems. recheck everything. twice. then swap another amp in to make sure it's the amp.

Yea, the power light was on with mine too. That's why I didn't think to check the ground.

I have been doing this stupid car audio crap for 16 years now (started at 10 years old) and that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I run all 0-4 gauge wires everywhere. How would any of those wires not be able to transfer the amperage needed? Maybe I am just frustrated and not seeing the big picture. :dontknow:

What the hell? That doesn't sound right at all. The amp would need a ground to even power up. If it was loose, how did the power light stay on?

It's past the 12 month warranty term.

....Which is why I didn't think to check the ground cable. The blue power light was on, but the way my amp is, is it gradually comes on that way not to blow any of your speakers or the amp itself, which is probably why the light stayed on and I heard no music.

connection points, my boy. a lot of times a wire will wriggle loose at any connection point in the chain. it may look and feel snug, but there isn't enough contact being made to flow enough amperage. re-crimp any connections you have, make sure that the fuse and holder are all making lots of contact.

if you've been doing this for 16 years, i'd hope that you'd know better than to have an amp repaired without at leasting switching a known working amp in it's place. :dontknow:

call me crazy, but i like to eliminate ANY possibilities before i go having something repaired.

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm going to stop by my boy's shop this week and throw another amp on there, pull the recessed amp rack, and window out...again, and check all the connections to the amps, bat cap, grounds, fuse boxes, distribution blocks, etc...again. I fucking hate cars!!!

And if it is indeed the amp, where should I take it to get repaired? :D

Have you heard my system? It's obnoxious! Find me a Kenwood that puts out that much CLEAN power...epecially at 1.3 OHMS. :D

Dual 2 OHM DVC DEI Comp X subwoofers for the WIN!!!

By the way, my 2 2 channel amps which power my components are also DEI. :D
