I am in school, and sometimes feel like I don't know what I want to do....I guess like Uthinkso said, do what you like to do.

I would really like to get my welders certificate and learn paint and body. I can do those while I work, but have an opportunity for basically free college if i choose.

Take some classes! I am in a welding class (out of self interest) at washtenaw community college. They also have a BADASS body and paint program there.

trying to get a job as a body man or a painter is hard

times are bad

and our part of the industry is shot also talking to the snap on man on tuesday he said 3 of the shops he went to had sent the painters home by 11 oclock because theres nothing to do.... and my shops pretty slow, he did say lockmoor chrysler is busy tho.......

but welding i see signs for welders all over

i was gonna say auto body

thats what i'm goign to occ for , and currenly workin at collex( we had to turn away work on tuesday we had so many cars comign in, we ran out of room to park them)

If I could have thought of any career I really wanted to get into, my life would probably have turned out drastically different.

medical is always steady. people always get sick.

be an undertaker. I have a friend who does that, and he's always got a story to tell. That shouldn't be the driving force, but its an interesting job.

im starting to realize more and more that its better to have an ok paying job doing what you like/love/are passionate about than having a great paying job doing something you hate. you spend 50-60 hours of your week at work. why not enjoy it rather than dread getting up every morning?

go do the welding thing if thats what you really want to do. fabricating is a good skilled trade to get into. the great thing about it is that its a flexible field. theres such a wide range of careers in that field.

Criminal justice law enforcement, Cant wait to get through with it and be a cop!
Good luck with that.. My buddy had to start out in Detroit making next to nothing, he worked there for two years then went to Kent County and makes twice as much as he did in Detroit.

I have respect for cops, they risk their lives and don't make shit for it. Yet a god damned pro- athlete makes millions  :bs:

Good luck. It is hard to get hired in this state. Just like everything too many people, not enough jobs in the feild

That's partially a result of revenue sharing cuts from the state. Factor in legacy medical insurance and pension benefits and it's easy to see why many cities/villages/townships aren't taking on additional staff.

FWIW, where there's a will there's a way. If you have a passion for something you'll find a way to make it work.

Just my .02.

I'm in the process of doing this. :)
Going from IT to fire fighter/paramedic, after 8 weeks of classes I wish I would have done this much sooner. :)

my current profession, programmer, the world is gonna be run by computers in the near future if not already...

Your crazy. I have seen more shops shut down in the last 3 years then I would have ever imagined was possible. The only reason you have that much work is due to the largeness of the Collex name. The smaller independent shops are starving in alot of areas. You couldnt pay me enough to run own or work at a bodyshop again. Not in the current state of economic affairs. Take a close look at all the damaged cars on the roads. People are cashing out instead of fixing their rides in mass numbers.

Not trying to sound like a know it all, but I deal with this daily for the last 10 years. I know my chit
