This past summer, I was up north on a family reunion. It was kind of a shitty day, the wind was blowing, overcast skys and lake Huron had whitecaps and curled waves rolling to shore. A few of my cousins and I decided to polish off a pint of 151 Hot Damn and a fifth of pinnacle Vodka with beers to chase it all down. I was drunk, getting slammed by waves and lost my wedding ring in the process. All in all, it was a blast that day and I don't regret it. So my wife and I have always said, lets get our wedding rings tattooed on. A few days ago, she said "lets go down to the tattoo parlor and get it done." I didn't want a traditional boring black band on my finger, so we did something a little non traditional.
I've always liked pirates and the pirate logo. We decided on getting the Jolly Roger skull and swords on our ring fingers. The pirate that flew the Jolly Roger symbol was named Calico Jack. He was from Europe and traveled to the Caribbean and became a pirate in the 1600's. He was caught and hung as a warning to other pirates. In the movie Pirates of the Caribbean, there is a scene where Jack Sparrow travels into port in the beginning of the movie. There are several pirates hanging, rotting, right outside of port. There is a pirate with a sign on his body that says "pirates be warned." That is supposed to be Calico Jack.
I also loved the F-14 Squadron with the skull and swords on the tail fins. That squadron was named the Jolly Rogers. Growing up, I was always pretty big into military aviation and used to think those F-14's were the baddest jets around....well, here's our tattoos. I think they are wicked cool. I know a lot of people may think it's kind of dumb, but I don't care. I love them and thats all that counts.
