I have a 96 ford contour, 113k miles, needs some work(~$400), $1,000 takes it.
Needs brakes and tie rods.
Interior is messy, but nothing a cleaning can't fix.

Other than that, runs smooth and has 0 problems.

I've replaced the tires($250), battery($70), and the timing belt($450).
