HVAC Guys Have a Question...

Had a New carrier Two stage 60k BTU ECM furnace installed. It is wired to a two stage thermostat but is only hooked up single stage at the thermostat. My question is I set my heat to 60 when gone and 65 when I come home. Well its been almost two hours to get to 65 and shut off. It only ran in the low stage. Is this how its supposed to be or should it of went into high? Also should I have them rewire it so the thermostat is wired to both stages instead of the furnace controlling the two stages(installer said its better for furnace to control the stages)?

Also its a 1050 square foot ranch, decently insulated walls and r49 in the atttic.

Thanks
Jeremy

I'm not in HVAC, but a 2 stage 'stat controlling the system is better. Thermostat knows what's going on in the living space - furnace doesn't - and the stat should give you longer burning times, thereby evening the temp throughout the house. Are you sure it's a 2 stage stat? (and they just didn't save some money by putting in a single stage). I think a 2 stage stat requires an extra conductor in the wire - maybe they didn't want to run it.
