Never had a car old enough for historic plates. It's a 85, so it's not like I can find a plate for it. What do I do?

You can actually get one. There is a guy at Autorama every year with them. You can reregister it as an antique plate. Very cheap and yours forever. I had a manufacture plate from 1972 on one of my cars.

I recently seen a white and blue new style historic plate on something, I can't tell you what It was though. What do I need to take with me to the sec of state?

You can get a historic plate (brand new) that has a tag like a normal plate. Cost $30 for 10 years. https://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,4670,7-127-1585_1595_52364-205688--,00.html. You can apply for one in person at the SOS or apparently by mail like the link states.

For an authentic plate (classic plates with year on them), here's the link: https://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,4670,7-127-1585_1595_52364-205712--,00.html. Costs $35 and is good forever. Looks like you can use a blue plate with the right year tab on it.

I just found a 85 plate on eBay that's the stamped year one, and it's a custom plate that says "1 FOX". How bad ass!?!?

That's really all I'm looking to do with the car anyway, so I'm good with it. I talked to the guy on eBay, I can go pick it up tomorrow!

You can't use a vanity and you're not supposed to use a manufacturer or dealer although I've seen them out there. You can use a blue/white with an 85 sticker already on it, or find a blue/white with any year and put an 85 sticker on it, I've seen people selling them on eBay in the past. If I recall, the only plates that were stamped with the years during the 80s were vanity and special plates. I'll check my basement tonight and see if I have an extra 85.

Edit: I've got some 90s stuff but I couldn't find an 85. I feel like I'm missing a box of plates somewhere but no idea where it could be.

I do want to use the car for those reasons solely. Mechanical testing being the biggest one, where I'd only be going around my very small block. Car shows, and cruises mainly after the mechanical testing.

The problem with the authentic plate is that is doesn't register in police computers. It just comes up invalid.

Gives the police a reason to pull you over at any time they want. I went historic vehicle for this reason.
