How to determine proper stall in Convertor?

What is the rule of thumb when choosing a torque convertors stall? I ask because I recently picked up an AOD setup and the convertor with it is a 10" 4200 non lock up. I'm concerned it may be too much for my engine. The guy I got it off of said it would probably only stall around 3500 with my power level, which is where my engine makes full boost anyway. Would it be a bitch driving this thing on the street? I'm debating just tossing it in and seeing how it acts, I guess I could always get it reworked.

well if u like spending extra money... it migght work good with ur combo it might not..... i usally buy the right stuff the first time.

put it in and see what happens. I run a 3200 in mine and it feels good. You can definitely feel the looseness vs a stock converter, but it really helps it light up the turbo
