How does romaine lettuce get e coli?

Just heard it on the news. Never heard of this happening with vegetable before, but what the hell could cause it? Seems real strange...
 
Didn't taco Bell have a problem with those green chilies a few years ago? Same thing. I have no clue, unless it's not being washed before using.
 
I remember a few years ago there was a similar lettuce problem.

It was traced back to a lettuce field picker crapping in the vegetable

field that contaminated the lettuce (I know, gross).
 
Have you ever seen a farm where people are picking vegetables? Look for porta johns... dont see any? They gotta piss and shit somewhere!
 
Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking but didn't want to say it (hell I didn't even want to think it). Damn unhealthy vegetables. Guess I'll stick to alcohol.
 
Yep, exactly as mentioned... whether it’s the pickers hands being unwashed after taking a shit, or them shitting somewhere and then contaminating the irrigation supply.... it all comes down to shit on your veggies
