HOW Does one tune an Edelbrock Carb

So I just bought this car and it has an edelbrock carb on edelbrock intake, hooker headers, a cam and petronix ignition. (literally, that is all I know).

No choke so starting it in the cold is a beotch. you would have to pump the gas to get it started and occasionally it would backfire out of the carb.

It was hesitating under moderate acceleration, but I think I fixed that with rewiring the ignition.

HELP! I know nothing about car carbs.

The idle mixture is the two screws in the front. Attach a vacuum gauge, start the car (hot) and let it idle. Turn the screws one at a time until you get the highest possible vacuum reading. If it needs further tuning it will need metering rods swapped out. Google it.

I have a box of parts that include (that I think are) metering rods and jets.

Can you rent/borrow an a/f sensor from autozone to put in the exhaust? If so, what is a good a/f reading? On the Lightning it was 11.8'ish. (supercharged). This is a n/a 302.

start by loosening the 4 nuts that hold it down to the intake........

And replace it with a Holley...lol. I had one on my mustang back in the day and I hated it. It would never run right with the edeljunk.

They aren't as easy to tune as holey's, but i will say once you get them there, they are more reliable. You have to remove the whole top to get to anything, which makes it a pain in the butt. I third the suggestion to remove it and get a holley type carb. Check into AED, great carbs at a great price.

I've had a few Carter/Edelbrocks. They work, just a PITA to get them there.
