How bad is this axle pitting?

I have the rear end in my Mustang all apart for a brake upgrade. I noticed that the axles were pitted when I removed them. I dont have any extra cash for new axles so I had to put them back in. How bad are they? I put in new axle bearings today as well.

They should be replaced, but don't look like they are bad enough to leak yet. Replace the bearings and seals and polish the shafts with scotch bright or a fine emery cloth and reinstall them.
Bearings & seals are cheap.

Seen worse, although the hardening is flaking off the axle and thats a sign of low lubrication or lots of wear. Soon enough those will need replacing, although you could try sealsaver bearing. They offset the bearing and seal to a less worn portion of the axle. I have done that on a few stock 8.8 rebuilds in trucks and it does work until the axle dies completely.

Timkin has the best one... 95% of Checker cabs downtown have these installed...
