Holsters for Concealed Carry

It's called Mexican Carry. (Well, I think maybe that's only when it's in the front.) That said, I would never carry with a gun pointed at my jimmy without something like a holster covering the trigger.

Noob. I seldom use my holsters. Hell, I don;t even own a holster for my .38. I carry a .45 and a .38. The .38 has no hammer and is always loaded, the .45's safety is off, all 8 are in the mag, and there's 1 ready in the chamber. I have been carrying for 11 years.

I hope your joking.....

Kahr PM9 in a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster. The gun weighs less than 20oz, loaded with 6+1 JHPs.

I dont have a CCW yet, but what would you guys recommend for a Ruger P95, 9mm?

I believe it is considered a large medium frame

uncle mikes size 15 IIRC

I have one.
I can't carry it unless I have a coat on.

the rubber band trick, or a thick grip works just as well, is for the ball of your back carry. Keep the holster for the pros that know how to use it. Your not a pro. Can you guarantee me that the gun will release from the holster without getting caught on anything? ie, the trigger, the leather tightening up, or the clasp not getting stuck. The one time I need it, i dont wnat to think about that stuff. Cops train to reach for the gun and remove it from the holster. Do you? I would think twice before thinking that carrying in a holster is a safer way to not "get yourself killed" as you so well put it.

Why not? QUOTE]

because even though 1911 style .45's have a "grip safety" its also much safer to have the safety on. and besides, it takes no extra time to unlock the safety with your thumb when your drawing from your holster, or place of concealment. especially if you practice, practice, practice......

I can say that with the relatively light trigger pull of my kimber; I prefer the safety on untill I decide to take it off.

and with you posting that you dont carry in a holster; I would consider it mandatory to do one of the other, either use a holster and cover the trigger untill you pull the weapon; OR skip the holster, but DEFINATELY use the safety.

as mr murphy says......

Al, you're just an outlaw/gangsta. :guns:

Do you hold your gun sideways when you pop your caps? :icon_mrgr
I'm neither.

And no, I prefer to have my bullet's travel straight, so I hold my guns correctly. On a related note, did you know they make sites that can be fastened to the side of your gun? You know, for those wanna be gangstas who want to hold their "gat" sideways and still be accurate.

The rubber band trick can also cause you trouble when you want to draw your weapon, since it will still stick to your clothing when you don't want it to. As far as your negatives regarding holsters, Kydex type holsters have none of those problems, which is why I like them.

And yes, I do practice drawing and firing my weapon quite often.

Just playin' with ya Al. I figured (and hoped) 1: you weren't, 2: you didn't.:icon_mrgr

The Birdman nightsights (which were mounted on the side of the gun's slide) were just a joke, and were never sold. They had a website pretending to sell them, and then the feds made them shut it down. It was funny as hell while it lasted though.

I have read this entire string and the only good advice I can take out of it is above. Whichever rig you choose, you must practice. Safety on, safety off. Full-frame in a Glaco or sub compact duct taped to your ankle, it doesn't matter. You can have laser-beam eyes but if you don't practice, you're a dead man in an emergency.

Keep your powder dry, and good luck.

I agree on all counts.

All, all three of the holsters I have for my .45 (ballistic nylon, hard leather, and ballistic nylon shoulder holster) are all without any kind of guard over the back of the gun. There is no point to a holster with a release of any kind over the back of the gun. Why even carry if you have to worry about drawing?

I saw those many years back and was like, "wtf has this world come to!?!?!?" In regard to your "practice" comment, I can't tell you how many people I know who carry yet have never been to the range since they got their permit. It's pathetic. My .45 has been holster-fucked like no other. I've already had it "re-blued" once. My .38 is nickel plated and has never seen a holster. I practice pocket and waist line draws with that one. No sense in carrying if you can't draw.
