HIDs

Make sure you guys buy from someone who includes the relay for the ballasts. I got mine off of ebay for $125 shipped. If you don't have a relay running them you'll end up with fried harnesses and headlight switches.

BWB...that is not true in all cases. There are many things that will cause the HID to fail at not only the harness and switches, but the bulb as well. In fact, many HID kits do not require the relay such as the new GM trucks, most toyotas, some jeeps (depending on bulb), and some older gm vehicles. The job of the relay is to provide enough power to support the HID ballast. In some cars the headlights themselves do not have enough power to start the ballast. as you may or may not know, hids use less power to operate but more power to start up. the relay pulls power from the parking lamps and provides enough to start the ballast. Once they are started and warmed up the relay is not necessary but without it you will end up frying your harness and switch like you said. 300c's need a relay, that I am sure of, and just about every car that uses the same bulb for high and low beams due to the nature of the light. another thing that may cause this to happen is the bulb in the headlamp itself. The fact of the matter is that many headlights were never designed to have hids in them. Air space is a premium with HIDS. for instance many guys who custom fab hids to fit in the fog lights will melt just about everything in the system due to the lack of air space in the housing, which i include in melting the entire system. in addition to the airspace, the distance of the bulb to the aluminum reflector in the housing also matters, if the bulb is to close to the shield they sometimes arc like a spark plug and short the system out...

sorry for the long explanation but i used to sell a ton of these things but the market has been really bad right now as in everything else and i havent placed an order in a while....i have seen all the above with regards to hid installs...

james, you know i can get you a deal on these things, or atleast point you in the right direction on ebay. I have to order a set for a buddy's truck and am waiting till i can get a few more orders. if you are planning on putting them in the mustang, make sure there is enough room for the dual beam hid housing back there, some of the kits i have sold or installed dont always fit in between the battery and the lamp due to the large size of many dual beam hid kits...

as for a group buy, keep in mind that when i was buying hids at quantity a while back i was paying only a little bit under ebay prices for an order of atleast 20 kits. granted some of the kits on ebay arent the greatest quality either. I didnt start seeing a noticable enough profit margin until purchasing 50 or so sets at a time, and even then i was selling them at ebay prices and only making a few bucks a set...just thought i would put that out there...

i do have a guy in cali that i use...his name is joe...that sells hids to me one set at a time for good prices because i have bought quantity from him before. he is the guy i got steve saleens hid kit from, relay and all. with hids though, you might as well spend a couple extra bucks and get a better set to start with because if they blown, neither ballasts nor bulbs are really that cheap to fix...

hope that helped
