Hey gun guys...

Just getting into shooting.

Do not currently have our own, so we rent and buy ammo at the range.

What is the best option for decent range ammo?

Guns I'm currently considering are:

Colt mustang pocketlite - For the wife and maybe for a pocket carry for me.

H&K p30sk

Springfield xd mod 2 in a 9 or 45.

Glock 19

Thanks in advance!
Dennis

.22 is cheap, when you can find it. Id like to buy as much as you have for double thats on the price tag...

HNK is badass, I have a USP .45 and I really like it.

If you haven't shot any of these yet, go do that first. You might find one that jumps out to you immediately and makes the decision easy. For me, it was the G19. That said, I'd look into any Glock and the .22LR barrel conversion for it, so you can shoot and get familiar with the gun and train, while saving some money on ammo at the same time.

Use GunBot for ammo prices. You can find some quality ammo at a good price. Locally, Wal Mart seems to be a good place to find 9mm without breaking the bank.

I'd suggest a polymer striker fired in 9mm. M&P, Glocks, Sig p320, XD's/XDM, VP9. The new Canik pistols by Century Arms are getting amazing reviews and can be had for under $350 easy. They offer 3 or 4 versions that are all based on the same frame. I suggest striker fired because they are the same trigger pull every time.

Great Lakes Ammo in Wixom is seriously the best ammo for the best price and your supporting a Michigan company. Kinda of a no brainer.

I recently picked up a P2000SK and I love that gun. I typically purchase my ammo from Dunham's, Dick's or Field & Stream. It just depends on where I am when I decide to buy ammo. My next gun will more than likely be a H&K USP Compact .45

Check gunbot.net for ammo prices online, and as stated Great Lakes ammo is a good choice for picking some up local.

Don't let anyone tell you which handgun is best for you. A lot of ranges like the firing line will let you try out 3 or 4 and take the rental cost off the cost of your firearm. Purchase which firearm YOU fire the best, which has a good point of aim and is reliable. As suggested a polymer 9mm (Glock, Smith and Wesson M&P, or a Springfield XD) is your best starting point or a small frame revolver if you wish to carry a smaller firearm.

Don't waste money on lasers, sights, lights or any other nonsense. Purchase ammo and practice, practice, practice. In a self defense situation your fine motor skills will be shit and time will be of the essence. Putting the firearm on target via muscle memory saves lives. Not wizbang gadgets.

This^^^^ And I use Michigan Ammo Co. reloads for the range. Not one misfire yet. I get them at Rhonda's in Woodhaven.
