Help - 96 Grand Marquis won't run at temp

Guy I work with just picked up a 96 Grand Marquis and it's not running right once the car gets up to temp. It looses power i.e. won't accelerate normally, bogs out. Runs fine when cold, has good power.

The plugs were just replaced, all the connections were dried out after the car was washed inside and out. A code came up as a #7 misfire when he had it scanned.

Sounds like he has a vacuum leak as well, I haven't heard it yet, which I'll do on my lunch break.

any ideas? I've known the IAC to be a problem. I'm gonna go check the plug wires over, he said they have some wear, but don't look original.

Thanks for your help,

Ryan

sounds like the cats are on there way to being plugged

gte a tempature ;aser thing.. the point and shoot temp things.. start teh car and drive it around for a while check the exh pipe temp about a foo tinfront of the cats the cat center then after..

If the cat center is higher than the pipe before it by 30 degrees cut them out.. uhhh or get them changed i mean

start checking the cheap stuff first. thermostat radiator fluid, hoses shit like that. stop driving it when its hot too! Any car that gets too hot loses power and bogs.

um.. he states that the car is running at operating temp not that its over heating.. just that it has a loss of power once at operating temp..

So with that in mind you can almost 99% rule out anything having to do with the cooling system.

96 Grandma Marquis eh? Ya dont say.... Wonder who has a 96 Grand Marquis?

If he doesn't figure it out I've got a ton of manuals he could borrow to go through flow charts and stuff.

turns out the plugs weren't replaced....

He bought the car from a guy in brighton who worked at a dealership. The guy picked the car up, gave him a loaner, The #7 plug had about a .120" or so gap, and corrosion built up on the cap... They found this and replaced only the #7 and 8 plugs. :dontknow:

After all this, the guy knocked off another 50 bucks and gave him new floormats for the car. car runs great, too!
Rest of the plugs are gettin changed when it the weather gets a gonad better

Tell that guy he's a lazy ass. It takes 20 minutes to swap plugs on a grand marquis. The only one that is a hassle is the rearmost driver side plug
