So I am swapping the headlight switch AND the connector on my 84 Mustang... The connector is perfect in every way - but one....

The brown wire next to the black/red power lead is only a single wire on the new one...

Where the original one in the car has dual brown wires going in to a single connector???

My repair guide wiring diagrams suck...

Anyone?

Can you just back the terminal out and insert it into the new socket? You could just tie them together and go from two wires to one. The new plug you have is from a car that didn't have the bulb outage information display. One of the brown wires goes to the front running lights and the other goes through a set of resistors and then to the rear parking lights.

PM me your email and I will send you some really good wiring diagrams in PDF

I found a wiring diagram this AM that says the two wires are for the up-shift indicator???

I'll PM you my email. I didn't want to splice the two in to the one because I didn't want to burn something up without knowing what they were first.....

Factory shift light.

Yeah - I know that. lol.

But heres the fucked up thing. The wiring diagram he just sent me says its for the parking signal lights and NOT the up shift light. I'm confused.

I guess what I'll do is trust the Ford diagram over the AllData diagram and connect the two wires to the single wire......and call it a day! :)

Well what I said was that it feeds the factory shift light dimmer relay. What it does is dim the factory shift light when the parking lights are on so it doesnt blind you at night when it comes on. You should be fine with just splicing the two wire to the one wire.
