Have question for plumber or those in the know

Last night I gave my daughter a bath and drain the tub. I proceeded to flood our finished basements. I went through the shower and toilet in the basement. I narrowed it down to the pipe from the house to the city's sewage. My question is is there a check ball in that pipe to prevent sewage from coming into the house? If so could that check ball be stuck a lot that allow my house to drain? Also is any part of that pipe with the responsibility of the city? Lastly will my homeowner's insurance which I have coverage cover this matter

Homeowners will cover the damage but not pay to repair the issue that caused the damage, usually the pipe is yours until the sidewalk

Backflow prevention devices do exist, but they're not too common to see around here. If you have one, there should be a small access panel in the floor close to where the main sewer line exits the house. Inside is usually a simple flapper panel that gets pushed up to seal the home's line in the case of a backflow.

The pipe from your house to the city sewer in the street is your liability.
Homeowners will not cover its repair, but possibly the damage it did when the backup occurred, depending on what coverage you have.

Is it plastic PVC pipe or black cast iron? Black cast iron is prone to rotting out and if you have cast iron you should replace it.

What city are you in? Most of the cities list who is responsible for what.

Last year we had our main sewer line replaced. From the house to the street due to a shifted pipe right at the sidewalk. It was on our side of the yard so we had to foot the bill.

Milford.

The city came out and snaked their part of the sewer line. They pulled out a bunch of tree roots, now everything is draining fine. Except my finished basement carpet is soaked.

I read online where you can file a claim with the village:

I think I will do it to get my $1000.00 home insurance deductible back.
at least we get new carpet. besides that I have not really assessed the damage.
