Pros and cons of filling up my sbc please. either a half or 3/4 fill. What will each of these do for me/hurt me??? Wondering on power levels i can take the motor to "safely" lol.......and with an external engine oil cooler would i be able to street drive the car?? Thanks in advance. I would like to hear from many diff. people on this one.

what block are you using?
has it already been machined?
my old 406 (509casting) made 640 on motor and I sprayed it with a 300 shot with no problems. that engine was 1/2 filled with epoxy and I also had splayed steel main caps put on that block with the main caps dowel pinned to the block.

it is a 10/20 nickle sbc that i has been in the car for about 3 years now. This winter i am taking it out to make some major changes...i was interested in filling it 1/2 or 3/4 and getting myself a set of aftermarket main caps.....it is already a 4 bolt block so i would not be using splayed caps. This combo will make 670-680-hp at the crank and i will be spraying it with about 200, maybe 300hp with a controller. Anymore info or advice would be greatly appreciated

I would step up to a good dart or world block with splayed caps. By the time you spend all that money on machine work you'll be just a few $$$ ahead on a much weaker block.

Darts running a good sale right now $200 of all the blocks they sell.

Get one while you can.

Factory 4 bolt SBC blocks are weaker then splayed 2 bolt blocks.

IMHO you'll never get a stock SBC block much beyond 900 hp even with all the prep before the mains come crashing out of them. The later lt1 blocks are a bit thicker and the factory 400 blocks are the worst. At the power level you are going for a stock block is a bad gamble.

thanks sean. the machine work will be getting done VERY cheap as i am owed a favor.....and hard block is dirt cheap.....im looking at whatever it costs to step up to a solid roller cam/lifter and spring....im guessing about $1,000-1,200. The guy porting my heads was harold martins crew cheif and he did everyone of his heads by hand.....luckily hes my neighbor
