For 5mph over, does anyone know if this will have points?

Never got one before that I didn't have taken care of. It was a Fraser cop...I have no connections there:mad:
Oh well... I was going waaaay over the speed limit so I guess he did me a favor.

How do I find out about points? and How will it affect me (ins./record)

Any help would be appreciated....

Thanks!

just my opinion. But if i were you there would be no way in hell i would even fight that ticket. Most people i know that get five over tickets and they were really doing 20 over who take them to court the just waste their time. The judge will either laugh because the officer already gave you a big break, or it might piss the judge off and he/she can change your ticket to whatever the actual speed the cop recorded when he/she pulled you over. The second one happened to 2 people i personally know. I told them not to fight it...they went and got bent over even worse. That is just my opinion though. All in all...it would really come down to what exactly you were doing and how fast you were going. I would take it from there.

I've been having a bad run latley.

I got a 19 over in georgia which is gunna coast me 422 bucks three weeks ago that was my first ticket in three years. Then lastnight I was running lake to my trainers appointment and go a 5 over on southfield freeway which is only 115 bucks and no points thankfully!

Good luck. Have to go to traffic court today in clinton twp to deal w/ two tickets.

Clinton Twp isn't bad if your driving record doesn't suck. They should let you plead it down to impeding. All they want is your $.

To the OP, Fraser sucks for trying to get out of speeding tickets. At best you should set a court date and plead guilty with explanation and hope you have a good excuse and the judge might let you slide on the points.

Woohoo, now Im not the only one...unless you got this in Allen Park. I think Im the only person to ever get a speeding ticket on the Southfield while in Detroit

Was it on a highway or regular road you got pulled over on? 5 over on the highway is 0 points. 5 over on a regular road is 2 points. Do a search, Mark (Motown's resident lawyer) posted all the points listings in a thread a while back. I've fought every ticket I got and they all got reduced to impeding traffic. The only one I just paid was on M14 for 5 over (0 points). If you have a clean record they will usually plead it down to impeding. They're just looking for the revenue most of the time.

Found it for ya:

Get a lawyer. I have one that I use who is good. His fee is flat and he starts by dragging it out as long as he can. You can drag this out twice as long when you have a lawyer doing it. He then goes to court and has always walked out with an impeding traffic or a no show from the cop.

It's two points to the insurance company no matter what road you are on. Fight the ticket, but don't be stupid about it. Before going into the court room, talk to the city attorney. You don't need a lawyer for this. ADMIT what happened, explain that you'll be happy to pay the fine, but that you just don't want the points. If you have a clean record, they'll usually work with you.

If they don't have your explanation ready. It should be the same reason you gave to the city attorney. Again, explain that you just don't want the points and that you'll be happy to pay the fine.

You ARE going to pay the fine. I see no reason to pay an attorney as well. The cop gets paid overtime to show up for court. 99 out of 100 the cop will be there. If the court date is reset, the court clerk sets the date to when the cop can be there.

Get a lawyer. Many times you will state your case, the magistrate will ask if you're done, and then hand down the fine/points like you weren't even there. Don't risk it.

FYI - 5 over on freeway is 0 points to the SOS, but still 2 points to most insurance companies. I learned this one the hard way myself. You might want to check into it before deciding to just pay, fight, etc.

Thanks Guys! I was on 15 mile rd. doing 60 in a 40?45? Totally my fault, I love to hit the gas and shift!
He just wrote me for 5 over and my insurance was expired, but not really I just didn't have the current slip in my car. That will be waived he said once I get them the current info.

I do not plan on fighting it, just wondered if it will affect my insurance. I would like to see if I can pay it with no points, have to make a court date.

Thanks again for all the info. I do appreciate it!!
