I have a foxbody 5.0 5 speed car it starts and then when i take it for a short drive (like a couple miles) it wants to stall out unless im on the gas pedal and moving and also when i down shift into like second and first it surges. Everybody who hears the car run says its got a cam in it but i dont know because i bought the car as a project im wondering if anybody has had a problem like this or does the car need something done to the computer to
adjust for a cam or what should i do????? would like to drive the car soon all help would be appreciated thanks

No cats. I didnt notice the temp going up at all. Its a 92 and motor is basically stock to my knowledge but I dont think its the original motor but sounds like its got a cam in it.. car idles just sitting there when I first start it up but when it sits there for a bit it idles down low then jumps up then low again then chonks out..

IDLE AIR CONTROL. Google it there's a ton of info about 5.0 rough idle. Could be IAC, temp sensor, TPS can cause weird issues.

Does it idle a little high? "Sounds like it has a cam" and want to stall out sounds like maybe a vacuum leak?
On top of all the other suggestions on here, do an over-all underhood check.

dont idle bad when u start it and let it sit there until it runs a little while.. mostly when u drive it a couple miles and come up on stop signs and stop and car idles high then low then high then low and usually stalls out. but as long as your in the gas car runs fine

im gonna get it out this week and just go over the lines under the hood. bad thing is they smoothed out the engine bay and alot of wires are ran in the front wheel wells...

It's not necessarily the IAC. Try turning up the Idle screw a hair, that might keep it from surging. I had that issue years ago when I did a H/C/I install on my car and it would surge. Turned up the idle a bit and that was enough to stop the surging.

i'm on that this week.. worked on my notch with 6.2 ls motor all day today....

not to get off topic....

you have a notch with a 6.2 ls....but you dident know what an IAC was?....

back on topic.....

if all the wirings tucked and the panels smoothed out....why would somone drop a stock 5.0 in....you may very well have a cam.
