GM Tech Help Needed Inside....

Today I picked my truck up from a body shop who had done some work for me on my truck. I drove it about 6-8 miles and my dash starting sounding off that the "oil pressure was low" and to stop the vehicle. I did and pulled over and noticed nothing wrong with the engine as far as ticks or noise that would accompany the low oil pressure.

The truck is an 09 Sierra with the 5.3l

I called the dealer and was told that it could be a bad oil pressure sending unit or Oil pressure sensor or something along those lines. He said 9 out of 10 times a filter is clogged causing the code to alarm that pressure is low. I got online and goggled the symptoms and read that by changing the oil pressure sensor on top of the motor and removing the screen would fix this issue.
The truck has 62k on it and never had any issues before this. Does this sound like the cause of a faulty sensor or sending unit? Am I looking for a sending unit or sensor or are they the same?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oil change is getting done tonight just as a preventative measure. I read where guys have had that be the issue as well. Damn thing only has 2400 miles on it.If that isn't the issue pm me a price on a pressure switch could ya.
Its a bad oil filter, happened to one of my trucks twice. 2008 Sierra 1500 5.3L.

x2.... Ive had several vehicles in my shop with that problem.... Fresh oil & filter cured the problem... I know others that have told me they just change the filter when that happens & it cures the problem (cheap asses)

Well, I changed the oil and filter and it appears as of now to have corrected the problem. Thanks for the help fellas, and I'll let you know if it happens in the near future..

What causes this in this type of application? It seems that it doesn't matter the brand or manufacturer of the filter from what I have read online. All I know, is that it scared the shit out of me!!

I've seen it with several different brands of filters, but I'd lean more towards the bypass valve in the motor being stuck, since it's job is to bypass the filter if it becomes restricted

Some of the engines have the bypass, some do not.

If not in the engine, then it's a really good reason to pay for a higher quality filter with a quality bypass valve in it , oe filters are usually a good value

I know exactly what is wrong w your truck. And it is not the oil filter you change when you get an oil change!

Well you care to elaborate then? I bought a brand new Sierra last summer with the 5.3 and I'd like to know if I need to change something or watch out for something. Thanks.
