GM Tech Advice

My dad bought a 2015 Tahoe this spring and it just rolled up 3k and he did a oil and filter change. Used mobile 1 0-20 and the correct mobile filter. When he started the truck it rattled like rod knock and went away quickly. Now at every cold start it sounds like rods rattling for a few seconds. We are no stranger to 5.3 lifter rattle at cold start. My question is, is this at all common for the new 5.3? Should he have used a different filter? It's a straight up and down filter mount, so I dont it being an oil drain back issue. I know the obvious answer is to take it in and let it sit overnight for a tech to observe, I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this? I stopped buying GM trucks when my last two chewed up lifters, but this sounds like rods to me. Reminds me of an 80's v6 after an oil change. Anyone my age remembers that. Lol

Thanks

Matt

its normal , if it is and oil issue or bearing if it goes its under warranty anyway just save your oil change receipts. you may want to stick with a delco filter though

This doesn't sound like the normal lifter noise I hear from LS engines. Sounds more like bottom end noise at every cold start. I looked around on the Web and didn't see many cases of noise on the new generation engine. He hates taking cars in, they never come back in the same condition and he is very particular. Doesn't sound common, he needs to take it in.

The new Direct Injection V8's are super loud all the time. Plus there is a valve on the exhaust right around the muffler to keep it droning in AFM that can rattle. Try clamping that open with a vice gripand see if it still rattles on start.

You can hear the fuel pump and oil pump on my 6.2L at idle. When it starts the stupid anti-drone flapper in the exhaust makes a lot of racket that sounds like a slapping timing chain to me.

I fully hillbillied it and used remote start with a stethoscope to find out what the noise was on my truck.
