GM guys, quick question

My buddy has a 2007 Terrain, it has a slight ticking (same intensity as a worn sway bar end link) around high speed corners (he drives like an ass)

The noise sounds like its coming from the right front.

I took a quick look at it, there is no play in the RF wheel, there is a slight bit of play in the LF. It moves left to right (like a worn inner tie rod) but there is no play in the inner or outer tie rod. There is some play in the LF inner CV shaft.

Has anyone ever seen a CV shaft cause a wheel to have excessive play? In all my years as a tech, I have never seen it.

Idk about it causing excessive play. But for sure bad cv shaft making clicking/grinding noise when going around corners.

I have replaced many half shafts for the usual noise, this is slightly different but only happens on higher speed right turns.

No free play in the up/down check, only side to side. I cannot duplicate the noise with the front end jacked up, trans in neutral and spinning the tires by hand.

Ball joints feel tight (with load on the control arm and trying to pry or compress the joint)


I wasn't sure if this is a "common" failure point for these vehicles.

For what it's worth, I had the same thing in a 2008 Escalade. It only happened when turning to the right, and the sound came from the front left. It was the wheel bearing, and only made noise when turning because of the pressure of the centripetal force.
